I’ve never had a surprise baby, although it’s not all that uncommon, even in conventional families with conventional means. But for some reason for all the times that my body has been disorganized in its patterns that has never resulted in the eighteen years - life commitment of another human being.
I do however, have three planned babies, and even with all the planning in the world those creatures are hard. Really hard. Test your will and your strength and your soul and most of your relationships- if not all- bring you to tears on a daily and then weekly basis, (I’ll let you know if it gets any more spread out than weekly, my oldest is eleven and my youngest is seven and so far it’s still weekly more or less), test your pocketbook and your resolve and you’re debating skills all before breakfast- hard.
With that in mind my heart breaks for those girls who are having a child that they were not planning on. All of the hard and very little of the joyful anticipation to keep them going. I honestly don’t know how they do it. It’s rough to feel exhausted and sick and fat and I imagine all the more so if you are most likely doing it on your own.
I’ve been pretty privileged by nothing other than God’s grace to have never been in that position so now I want to love on those who are. To that end The Kinship Perspective does free maternity sessions for the clients of CAPS pregnancy clinics. CAPS is a clinic that offers judgment free and cost free services to those who are or have been pregnant.
They offer pregnancy tests and sonograms if you think you’re pregnant, baby items and support if you are having a baby quite soon, adoption services if you want to carry baby but can’t continue to provide for them, and counseling and classes for both men and women if your heart is broken or you are wrestling through some things.
All of this with love and encouragement and a complete lack of judgment and pushiness. I don’t know if pushiness is a word but you know that feeling that you get when the sales person stares you down for the third time and you just leave the store rather than be confronted again? I hate that too. And it breaks my heart when people approach hurting people by squawking at them instead of loving on them. This place loves people and doesn’t let you forget it.
Maternity may not be what I specialize in but this place fills my heart and actually makes me feel as if I can use this simple talent to do good.
