The Couple: Connor & Taylor
I’ve been working on these babe’s wedding photos and they’re ALMOST done- so I wanted to get their beachy engagement session up on the blog before everything became all out of order. Cheers to love stories and those of you carrying on during this season. Even though most years’, wedding season would be in full swing, things look a little different this year - or honestly, a lot different.
The beaches are open though, and we know couples are not social distancing, so Southern California remains a beautiful place for engagement sessions. Give me ALLLLLL the gorgeous outdoor settings- Mission Bay, Del Mar, Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla, WindandSea, OB pier… what is your favorite beach?
We chose Scripps La Jolla Pier for this coastal engagement session and we were not disappointed! I love the variations of light and background and you can almost always find a patch of empty beach to call your own.
Your engagement session is a perfect way to communicate your love story… before you get too deep into the business of planning your wedding day. An engagement session is also a great way to test out a professional photographer before hiring them to capture your wedding. When you are starting to think about choosing a wedding photographer, kick off the search by looking for photographers whose photos you love. That is such an important piece of advice. Browse our blogs for previous work and save any that stand out to you. Pinterest is also a great option for this and can give you styling ideas along the way.
From there an engagement session can give you the comfort of getting to know your photographer and seeing how they work - and letting your photographer get a feel for your story and personalities, so that by the time your wedding day comes we are all old friends.
As a San Diego native there aren’t a ton of secrets that this city still holds for me, but surprisingly this weekend I found two! Connor wanted to take photos at the La Jolla secret swing - which I had never been to - turns out I am definitely the only one! There was a line thirty deep of people just waiting their turn to sit/pose/snap a photo and move along.
Not exactly the romantic hidden adventure we had imagined as we hunted for the swing. We still had fun though, teasing about the saying on the swing, (“You are your soul’s vacation”- what does that even mean?), taking photos during our turn, and catching some gorgeous images in a nearby stand of trees that no one else seemed interested in. And we did find an ACTUAL secret swing and it was perfect. Beautiful, lonely, just a swing out over the blue, and best of all - a secret!
Intimate moments seen from afar, stolen kisses, and tender hends linked in anticipation. Through my lens, I seek to see your souls and tell the compelling story of your love with photojournalistic engagement and wedding photography.
